- Abbott and Google Partner to I ...
Abbott and Google Health have announced a partnership that will combine glucose monitoring data from Abbott’s Lingo consumer biowearable with Google Health’s artificial intelligence technology. The companies said the collaboration will allow users to access personalized metabolic insights through the Google Health app.
Under the arrangement, glucose data collected through Lingo will be integrated into the Google Health app, where users will be able to view glucose trends alongside other health and wellness metrics. According to the companies, the unified view is intended to help users better understand how daily behaviors affect their overall well-being.
The partnership will also include a large real-world metabolic health study designed to examine relationships between lifestyle factors and metabolic health using multiple sources of data.
Bringing Glucose Data Into a Broader Health Platform
The collaboration focuses on integrating ongoing glucose insights from the Lingo continuous glucose monitor into Google Health. By combining glucose information with other health metrics, the companies aim to provide users with a more complete picture of their health.
Lingo has been available since 2024 as an over-the-counter consumer biowearable and continuous glucose monitoring system. It is intended for people aged 18 and older who are not using insulin.
The device enables users to monitor glucose levels during exercise and throughout their daily routines. The concept behind the product is to help consumers track glucose responses and make dietary choices based on those measurements.
Google Health Coach to Provide Personalized Recommendations
Another focus of the partnership is the use of Google Health’s artificial intelligence tools. Data from Lingo will be incorporated into Google Health Coach, which will use those insights to provide personalized and contextual recommendations.
According to the companies, the recommendations will be aimed at helping users develop habits related to nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and recovery.
Olivier Ropars, divisional vice president of Abbott’s Lingo business, said, “The biggest challenge in healthcare isn’t treating disease, it’s helping people stay healthier longer.”
Ropars also said the partnership combines Abbott’s experience in biowearables with Google’s expertise in artificial intelligence and consumer technology. He added that the collaboration is intended to expand access to personalized insights while also advancing metabolic health research.
Study to Examine Links Between Lifestyle and Metabolic Health
As part of the agreement, Abbott and Google Health will conduct what they described as one of the largest real-world metabolic health studies of its kind.
The study will combine continuous glucose monitoring information with wearable, laboratory, and survey data. Researchers will examine connections between activity, sleep, well-being, and metabolic health.
The companies said the study will also look for signs of prediabetes, a condition in which blood glucose levels are elevated but have not reached the threshold for diabetes. Earlier awareness of those changes could provide an opportunity for people to make lifestyle adjustments aimed at reducing their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Google Health integrations for Lingo users are expected to begin rolling out later this year through the Google Health app.
Abbott and Google Health have announced a multi-year collaboration that combines Abbott’s Lingo biowearable glucose insights with Google’s artificial intelligence and consumer health technology. The partnership is designed to help people better understand how everyday habits influence glucose and metabolic health.
Abbott and Google Bring Glucose Data Into Google Health
Under the collaboration, Lingo users will be able to view ongoing glucose information within the Google Health app alongside other health and wellness metrics. Abbott and Google aim to create a more comprehensive view of personal health by bringing glucose trends together with information such as activity, sleep, and other lifestyle data.
Abbott and Google Add AI-Powered Health Guidance
A major part of the Abbott and Google partnership is the planned use of Google Health Coach. The AI-powered system is expected to analyze glucose trends alongside other health information and provide personalized guidance related to areas such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress.
This approach could move glucose monitoring beyond simply displaying numbers. Instead, Abbott and Google are seeking to translate continuous data into practical insights that help users recognize connections between daily behaviors and their metabolic health.
Abbott and Google Plan Metabolic Health Research
The partnership also includes a large-scale research initiative focused on metabolic health. Abbott and Google plan to combine continuous glucose information with wearable measurements, laboratory data, and survey responses to investigate relationships between lifestyle factors and metabolic health.
The research could also contribute to improvements in future AI coaching capabilities and Lingo products.
Abbott and Google Signal a New Direction for Digital Health
The Abbott and Google collaboration highlights the growing role of AI in turning continuous health data into personalized experiences. By combining Abbott’s glucose-monitoring technology with Google’s AI and consumer technology capabilities, the companies are targeting a more connected approach to everyday health management.
