- Assort Health Expands AI Platf ...
Startup Assort Health has introduced an outbound artificial intelligence (AI) agent designed to proactively contact patients for tasks such as rescheduling appointments, closing referrals, managing payment collections, and supporting flu shot outreach. The tool, named Assort Activate, is currently being used by more than 1,000 healthcare providers, with company executives stating it can improve patient access without requiring additional staff.
The company, which launched in November 2023, initially focused on inbound AI voice agents tailored to specific medical specialties. These agents assist practices including orthopedics, cardiology, and immunology by handling incoming patient calls, answering common questions, and directing inquiries to appropriate staff. The system integrates with electronic health records and practice management software to schedule appointments and resolve patient issues.
With the introduction of Assort Activate, the company is extending its platform to cover a broader portion of the patient care process. The outbound capability is used by health systems, federally qualified health centers, primary care providers, and specialty groups. It supports appointment booking, payment collection, and efforts to address gaps in care, while reducing the workload on front office teams.
Assort Health’s technology is built on a dataset that includes over 150 million patient interactions, 62,000 care protocols, and 1.6 million decision pathways across 22 specialties. According to the company, its system maintains a shared intelligence layer that carries context such as language preferences, communication timing, and patient history across interactions. This enables more personalized outreach and continuity between different touchpoints.
Executives said the outbound agent applies learnings from the company’s earlier inbound AI tools. The platform uses what it describes as “patient journey memory” to tailor communication based on prior interactions, allowing follow-up calls to incorporate information from earlier conversations.
Jon Wang, founder and co-CEO of Assort Health, described the scope of the system, stating, “We own the entire communications layer for these practices, both inbound and outbound, and they’re all connected to each other, so they leverage the same context and memory to create more seamless experiences across referrals and fax, payment collections, the care gap discovery, the patient intake.”
Healthcare providers have begun reporting operational impacts from using the outbound agent. At Boston Bone and Joint Institute, a six-location orthopedic provider, staff used the system to reschedule 53% of appointments after a snowstorm forced office closures. Previously, multiple staff members were required to call patients individually, often involving repeated follow-ups.
Early deployment data cited by the company indicates that some practices have achieved measurable results. Annapolis Internal Medicine reported that 61% of annual flu shot appointments were booked through AI-driven outreach, while SENTA Partners scheduled 64% of referral appointments using proactive campaigns. Twin Cities Orthopedics reported that 89% of patients paid outstanding balances, with nearly half of payments collected within seven days.
Assort Health reported raising $76 million in a Series B funding round in October, bringing its total funding to $102 million. Executives indicated that the company plans to invest in research and development as it continues to expand its AI platform capabilities.
Assort Health has expanded its AI-powered healthcare platform with a new outbound agent focused on patient outreach and appointment scheduling. The latest innovation strengthens Assort Health’s position in the growing healthcare AI market by helping providers automate communication workflows and improve patient engagement.
