CVS Health has announced new initiatives aimed at improving access to GLP-1 medications and expanding support services for patients using the treatments.

The company said its pharmacies offer all Food and Drug Administration-approved GLP-1 medicines through either insurance coverage or cash-pay options. CVS is also working with Eli Lilly to create a new access point for Zepbound and Foundayo through its app.

By the beginning of the fourth quarter, eligible patients taking either medication will be able to view pricing information, including cash-pay costs, through the app and then arrange pickup at CVS pharmacies. The company said the effort builds on its existing relationship with Novo to dispense oral and injectable Wegovy.

During the company’s earnings call, CEO David Joyner said, “This builds on our existing relationship with Novo to dispense oral and injectable Wegovy, making CVS Pharmacy a convenient, affordable destination for all FDA-approved GLP-1s.”

Expanded Support Services for Patients Using GLP-1 Therapies

In addition to medication access, CVS said it will introduce enhanced pharmacy support services intended to make it easier for patients who obtain these medicines to remain on treatment.

According to the company, pharmacists will assist patients by helping manage side effects, answering questions and supporting adherence. Joyner said pharmacists are a key differentiator in the company’s approach to weight management and GLP-1 support because they serve as trusted clinicians for many patients.

CVS also plans to offer online MinuteClinic visits priced at $29. Through these virtual appointments, patients can be evaluated for GLP-1 therapies, and clinicians may prescribe the medications when appropriate.

Joyner said these services are expected to become increasingly valuable as the Medicare bridge program, which provides coverage for the drugs for seniors, continues to mature.

Broader Effort to Simplify the Patient Experience

The company said its GLP-1 initiatives align with a broader effort to create a simpler experience for patients and consumers.

Joyner said the work around GLP-1 medications demonstrates how CVS can bring together different parts of its business to address a specific consumer need. The company’s strategy combines pharmacy services, digital tools and clinical support programs intended to improve access and ongoing care for eligible patients.

Quarterly Results and Updated Outlook

The announcement accompanied CVS Health’s second-quarter earnings report, in which the company reported nearly $3 billion in profit and $106.1 billion in revenue. In the same quarter of the previous year, CVS reported $1 billion in profit and $98.9 billion in revenue.

For the first six months of the year, the company reported $5.9 billion in profit and $206.5 billion in revenue, compared with $2.8 billion in profit and $193.5 billion in revenue during the first half of 2025.

Within its Aetna business, revenue increased 3.5% to $37.5 billion, driven by growth in government plans. The increase was partially offset by the company’s decision to exit the Affordable Care Act exchanges. Aetna’s medical loss ratio declined to 87.4% from 89.9% a year earlier, while total membership was 26 million compared with 26.7 million in the second quarter of 2025.

CVS reported revenue of $51.8 billion for its health services division, which includes Caremark, up from $46.5 billion a year earlier. Revenue in the pharmacy and consumer wellness division was $33.8 billion, compared with $33.6 billion in the prior-year quarter.

Following the quarter’s results, CVS increased its earnings-per-share guidance from a range of $7.30 to $7.50 to a new range of $7.90 to $8.10.

CVS Health Expands GLP-1 Access

CVS Health is expanding its focus on GLP-1 medications as demand for weight-management and metabolic health treatments continues to grow. The CVS Health approach combines medication access with patient-support services designed to help individuals navigate treatment.

The expansion reflects the growing importance of comprehensive support alongside prescription medications. For CVS Health, improving access and helping patients understand their treatment options can play an important role in long-term outcomes.

CVS Health Focuses on Patient Support

Beyond medication access, CVS Health is emphasizing services that can help patients manage their treatment journey. GLP-1 therapies can involve prescription decisions, ongoing monitoring, lifestyle considerations, and potential side effects.
