ElliQ

Through agreements with Medicare Advantage plans, Managed Care Organizations, and state governments, Intuition Robotics has been gradually increasing access to its AI-powered social companion robot, ElliQ, especially among older persons. The business has expanded its services to Medicaid recipients in the state of Washington, marking an important milestone. ElliQ can now be received by qualified individuals as part of their in-home care benefits thanks to the state’s acceptance of a statewide reimbursement code.

ElliQ is now available to eligible Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled in Washington’s Long-Term Services and Supports programs, such as Roads to Community Living and Community First Choice, thanks to this approval. This initiative, which was unveiled in March, is a significant step toward incorporating AI-driven care solutions into publicly financed healthcare initiatives.

This is the first time a social AI robot in the US has received full Medicaid reimbursement, according to CEO and co-founder Dor Skuler. Additionally, Washington is the first state to offer unlimited eligibility for qualified participants, marking a significant change in the financing and use of assistive devices.

ElliQ is an AI-enabled, voice-activated companion that promotes independent living. The gadget, which has a swiveling, lit head and a form akin to a small, contemporary table lamp, engages consumers through natural communication. It is designed to enhance daily routines, promote autonomy, and encourage individual choice in order to supplement current in-home care services.

The robot is proactive and sympathetic on purpose. It engages users in meaningful interaction, starts conversations, sends out reminders, and recommends customized wellness activities. Key components include social connection, daily check-ins, and health monitoring, all of which are intended to enhance well-being while lowering the need for in-person caregivers. Given the persistent lack of caregivers and the increased inclination of older persons to stay in their homes rather than move into institutions, this is especially beneficial.

ElliQ also helps with practical needs like organizing appointments, reminding people to take their medications, and keeping in touch with loved ones. It helps people stay involved and connected, especially those with intellectual and developmental challenges or physical restrictions.

In collaboration with the Olympic Area Agency on Aging in Washington, the business initially tested ElliQ with residents of Grays Harbor and Pacific counties. The pilot’s outcomes were quite positive. Every participant reported improvements in their general wellness after using the device an average of sixty times a day. Additionally, because of ElliQ’s presence and connectivity capabilities, 95% reported feeling less alone, 85% found the device straightforward to use, and 43% reported feeling safer and less nervous.

Participants completed an average of 145 health-related and 130 wellness-related activities annually, indicating high levels of engagement in these areas. These showed long-lasting behavioral effects and included physical activity, mindfulness exercises, and social interaction.

The pilot’s success was a major factor in the establishment of reimbursement mechanisms by the state of Washington, which made ElliQ widely accessible to qualified individuals. With features like a caregiver app and sophisticated AI capabilities driven by big language models, Intuition Robotics has improved the platform over the last year.

ElliQ’s health-focused capabilities now include behavioral monitoring, fall-risk analysis, personalized check-ins, ongoing assessments of daily living activities, and alarm systems that let professionals know when a user’s status might need to be evaluated. In line with more general healthcare quality and preventative care objectives, it also promotes standardized evaluations and assists in identifying service gaps.

ElliQ Under Medicaid in Washington State

The introduction of ElliQ under Medicaid in Washington State represents a groundbreaking shift in healthcare reimbursement. Washington became the first state to authorize full reimbursement for ElliQ, allowing eligible beneficiaries to access ElliQ through Long-Term Services and Supports programs.

ElliQ is now available to individuals enrolled in programs such as Community First Choice and Roads to Community Living, helping expand access to ElliQ for in-home care recipients.
