Google launches home ovulation diagnostic platform with Proov, Google has officially launched Health Connect – its latest healthcare venture which includes home ovulation testing in beta with several partners from the wellness space, including Flo and Proov. The tech giant initially announced the platform back in May.
Health Connect’s purpose is to provide a standardized method of accessing health and fitness information collected by compatible mobile applications. In addition to centralizing users’ privacy settings, the app synchronizes data from supported platforms and grants access to this data to other apps with their permission.
Typically, application developers have to set up multiple API connections in order to share data between their apps, which restricts their data-sharing options and make it more difficult for users to gain access to this data for use in other apps. This is where Health Connect steps in to simplify the user experience.
Google Health Connect’s collaboration with Proov has brought a home ovulation diagnostic platform to the market. With the data gained from Proov’s at-home tests and the Proov Insights app, couples can make informed decisions about their fertility and hormone levels before committing to expensive and invasive treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Users of Google Health Connect can monitor forty different data types across six distinct categories thanks to the standardized data scheme developed by Google and Samsung. These categories include exercise, body composition, cycling, diet, sleep, and vitals. Proov’s integration with the Health Connect ecosystem can enable the generation of dynamic health insights to comprehend the relationship between factors such as sleep, fertility, and a woman’s menstrual cycle.
Amy Beckley, Proov CEO, lauded this collaboration and underlined the role of the menstrual cycle in women’s overall health. She said women can leverage their menstrual cycles to achieve peak performance.
She also mentioned professional athletes who schedule their workouts according to their menstrual cycles. “Peak athletes, they will train according to their cycle, so they do certain things like in the luteal phase; they’re a little bit stronger, but they don’t have as much endurance they’re going to do higher reps in strength training,” Beckley stated. “When you’re actually bleeding, it’s better to do yoga and stretching to give your body a little bit of a break to heal and get ready. If you support your body and your menstrual cycle, you can be more productive.”
In order to learn more about health issues like painful PMS and recurrent miscarriages, as well as the extended six days of fertility, the Proov system monitors up to four hormones over the course of six days. Users can even learn how many eggs they have left.
Insights like these can save users a lot of money on expensive IVF treatments. Beckley herself spent a ton of money trying to conceive her son after a string of miscarriages, only to learn that a $100 supplement would have corrected her hormone imbalance and allowed her to conceive without as much difficulty.
Beckley claims that Proov’s unique insights are made possible by the fact that it can be used in the comfort of one’s own home, unlike the tests one might take at a doctor’s office or an OB-GYN’s.
Some other platforms Google has collaborated with include Oura, MyFitnessPal, Tonal and Peloton.
