In a new collaboration, Zocdoc, a health-tech platform, is partnering with UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital to introduce an innovative OBGYN initiative inspired by Barbie. This project aims to empower and educate young patients while promoting inclusivity and diversity within the medical field.

Zocdoc, a healthcare platform providing access to in-person or virtual care in multiple specialties, has introduced a campaign aimed at promoting women’s prioritization of their OBGYN visits. To support this initiative, Zocdoc pledges to donate up to $10 million to the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. For each OB-GYN appointment scheduled through their platform until August 21, 2023, which aligns with the theatrical release of the Barbie film, they will contribute $25 to the cause.

Barbie OBGYN Initiative

  • Initiative focuses on using diverse Barbie dolls to represent OBGYN professionals.
  • Dolls showcase various skin tones, hair types, and body shapes to challenge gender stereotypes in medicine.
  • Aims to inspire young minds to consider future roles in healthcare and promote inclusivity.
  • Interactive and educational platform at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital for young patients.
  • Children engage in an exciting play experience centered on Barbie as an OBGYN professional.
  • Platform familiarizes kids with medical procedures and creates a positive association with healthcare visits.
  • Goal is to alleviate potential anxieties about medical examinations and empower young patients.

One of the primary objectives of the initiative is to address gender representation in the medical field. By showcasing Barbie as an OBGYN, the project challenges traditional perceptions of male-dominated professions and encourages young girls to consider careers in medicine. Additionally, it seeks to highlight the contributions of female healthcare professionals and the importance of gender diversity in the industry.

The initiative also includes an educational component for children of all genders. By encouraging boys to participate in the play experience as well, the project aims to eliminate gender biases from an early age and foster a generation of open-minded and inclusive healthcare professionals.

The partnership between Zocdoc and UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital extends to the development of a comprehensive online resource center. This resource hub serves as a valuable tool for parents, caregivers, and educators to engage in meaningful conversations with children about medical practices, women in medicine, and career aspirations. It empowers parents to dispel stereotypes, reinforce gender equality, and nurture their children’s dreams, regardless of their gender.

The OBGYN initiative has garnered support from medical professionals, educators, and advocacy groups alike. It demonstrates the potential of collaborative efforts in driving social change and transforming the way healthcare is perceived by the younger generation.
