Bavarian Nordic

Bavarian Nordic, an international vaccine manufacturer dedicated to protecting public health and saving lives through the development of innovative vaccine solutions, has secured a new four-year agreement with the UK government to supply its MVA-BN vaccine. This will help strengthen the country’s ability to respond to potential outbreaks of mpox and smallpox.

The contract was awarded through the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and covers scheduled vaccine deliveries throughout the agreement period. It also includes provisions allowing flexibility in supply arrangements when required.

The latest deal extends the longstanding relationship between Bavarian Nordic and the British government, supporting national efforts to maintain adequate vaccine reserves and ensure readiness against emerging infectious disease threats.

Sarah Collins, Director of Commercial, Vaccines and Countermeasures Delivery at UKHSA, emphasized the importance of securing reliable access to vaccines capable of protecting the population against different infectious disease risks. She explained that working with multiple established suppliers helps create a more adaptable and dependable supply network, enabling authorities to respond effectively when public health emergencies arise. She described the agreement as an important element of the UK’s continuing preparedness strategy.

Hitesh Sahni, SVP of Public Preparedness at Bavarian Nordic, welcomed the renewed partnership, highlighting the importance of maintaining sustainable vaccine stockpiles and the ability to respond rapidly to outbreaks. He said the company was pleased to continue contributing to the UK’s public health protection efforts and viewed its vaccine as an important part of the country’s long-term resilience plans.

MVA-BN is a non-replicating vaccine approved for the prevention of both mpox and smallpox. It has played an important role in international outbreak preparedness and response initiatives, with governments and public health agencies continuing to prioritize access to vaccines that can be deployed quickly as disease threats evolve.

It was initially developed as a smallpox vaccine in partnership with the U.S. government, with the aim of ensuring nationwide vaccine availability, including for immunocompromised people who cannot safely receive conventional smallpox vaccines containing replicating viruses. It is now indicated for individuals aged two years and older who are considered at risk of contracting both diseases.

The latest agreement builds on earlier UK government procurement initiatives aimed at strengthening national preparedness, securing vaccine availability for eligible populations and ensuring supplies can be mobilized when outbreak response measures are needed.

Thai news comes not long after the firm announced that its share buy-back initiative, which debuted on the first of September this year, has been completed. It got to an aggregate amount of around DKK 250 million.

The transaction marked the initial phase of a broader share repurchase initiative, which has a total planned value of up to DKK 750 million. Bavarian Nordic intends to retain the repurchased shares as treasury stock before potentially cancelling them at a later stage to optimize its capital structure, subject to any required corporate approvals.

The buyback covered 1,105,446 shares in total. Since its previous transaction update on October 26, 2026, Nordea has executed several additional purchases on behalf of Bavarian Nordic.

Bavarian Nordic Secures Four-Year Vaccine Contract From UK Government

Bavarian Nordic has secured a new four-year vaccine supply contract from the United Kingdom government, strengthening the country’s preparedness against infectious disease threats. The agreement, awarded through the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), covers the supply of its MVA-BN vaccine, which is used to prevent mpox and smallpox.

The contract represents another important development for Bavarian Nordic as governments continue prioritizing vaccine availability and public health protection. Under the agreement, the company will deliver vaccines through scheduled shipments throughout the four-year period. The contract also includes optional flexibility provisions to support changing public health requirements.

MVA-BN Vaccine Supports Mpox and Smallpox Prevention

The vaccine supplied by Bavarian Nordic is known as Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN). It is a non-replicating vaccine designed to help protect individuals against mpox and smallpox infections.
