At its annual Users Group Meeting in Verona, Wisconsin, Epic introduced a broad collection of artificial intelligence tools, enhanced point-of-care clinical decision-support capabilities and new workflow automation features. The announcements build on initiatives the company introduced at its 2025 UGM as well as developments showcased at healthcare industry conferences over the past year.

Over 8,400 people attended the event physically at Epic’s headquarters, while total attendance across in-person and virtual participants reached 70,000, according to an Epic spokesperson.

CEO’s Words During the Presentation

During a three-hour executive presentation Tuesday morning, CEO Judy Faulkner, who appeared in a cowgirl outfit for the company’s county fair-themed gathering, centered much of her discussion on Ergo, which she characterized as a form of healthcare intelligence first previewed at last year’s UGM. Ergo is designed to combine human strengths such as intuition, empathy and clinical judgment with AI’s ability to rapidly analyze enormous EHR datasets, identify patterns and repeatedly refine its output. Faulkner also highlighted that AI systems can remain continuously available without experiencing fatigue.

Ergo draws on several underlying sources of information, including the electronic health record, patients’ MyChart accounts, Epic’s healthcare network and the company’s clinical research infrastructure, Cosmos.

How Epic is Utilizing AI

Epic is embedding generative AI and automated functions directly into its EHR while positioning its various copilot products as components of a broader enterprise AI ecosystem. Those tools include Art, the company’s clinical AI copilot; Emmie, its patient-oriented AI assistant; and Penny, which supports revenue cycle operations.

For outpatient care, Faulkner said Ergo Visit is already being used at Ochsner Health and by five physicians participating in Epic’s Garden Plot collaborative. Before an appointment, Art can review a patient’s record and prepare a concise overview highlighting information that may be most clinically relevant to the upcoming visit.

More Advantages of the AI Tools

Patients can then interact with Emmie through MyChart before seeing their clinician, Faulkner stated. Art and Emmie subsequently work together to generate potential discussion points for the physician. Art also produces summaries and other relevant information for care teams, with these summaries now being used across more than 300 healthcare organizations. According to feedback from users, the tool can surface information that might otherwise be overlooked, particularly records arriving through Care Everywhere from other healthcare organizations, while generating those summaries rapidly.

Epic reported that nearly 70% of surveyed users across its community said visit summaries incorporating Care Everywhere information revealed new details about patients that they otherwise would not have discovered.

Chart with Art, Epic’s AI-driven documentation tool, takes a different role during the appointment itself. The system listens to conversations between clinicians and patients, prepares a draft clinical note and presents additional documentation for the clinician to review and finalize.

Epic Senior Vice President of R&D Garrett Adams said the company’s objective was to fundamentally rethink the outpatient encounter and design the visit from the ground up around the technology now available.
